Priorities for Partner Visas lodged in Australia

Visa News
Currently, the standard processing time for an on-shore partner visa is between 17 to 20 months. To ensure that your application is processed as quickly as possible you should only lodge your application when it is complete. Usually, applications are considered in the order in which they were received but some applications will take longer to finalise than others. Applications that will be prioritised include those which have been remitted following successful review or Ministerial Intervention, and applications which have special circumstances of a compelling or compassionate nature.

Applications that may be decided quicker include those involving family violence, and those which are ‘decision ready’ at lodgement. The time to decide ‘decision-ready’ applications will vary due to a number of factors, including the need for further investigation or external checking.

Applications that are ‘decision ready’ are automatically identified as such by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection when they are received.

If you require assistance with preparing your Partner visa application, Heenan & Browne Visa and Migration Services will be happy to assist you and your partner with submitting a complete ‘decision ready’ application. We will carefully assess your circumstances at our initial consultation to determine what paperwork and supporting evidence are required to maximise your chances of priority processing. Although we can never guarantee that your application will receive ‘priority’, the majority of Partner visa applications prepared by Heenan & Browne Visa and Migration Services have been processed within less than the standard processing time.
