New Regional Visas with Pathway to Permanent Residency

On 16 November 2019, the government will launch the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) and the Skilled Employer Sponsored (Provisional) visa (subclass 494).

New Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa 2019

The Australian government recently announced that applications to sponsor a parent under a Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 870) will open on the 17 April 2019.

 

This will provide a new pathway for parents to temporary reunite with their children in Australia. It is geared at offering an alternative to the lengthy and expensive visas currently on offer to migrant’s parents.

Significant changes to Partner Visas in 2019

The Australian Parliament passed the Migration Amendments (Family Violence and Other Measures) Bill 2016 on the 28th November 2018.

 

The government cites the reason for the changes to be the improvement of the management of family violence in the delivery of the family visa program and the protection of visa applicants.

New Visa Announced - Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa

On Sunday 18th March 2018, the Australian Government introduced a new temporary work visa – the subclass 482 Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa.

The Migration Legislation Amendment (Temporary Skill Shortage Visa and Complementary Reforms) Regulations 2018 repealed the subclass 457 visa.

Australian Skilling Fund

The Australian government is planning to introduce the Skilling Australian Fund (SAF) Levy later this month.

 

It will have a significant impact on businesses wanting to sponsor overseas workers on short-term and permanent visas. The aim of the fund it to support up to 300,000 more apprenticeships, traineeships and other employment related training.
