Visa News

From 1 December 2025, VETASSESS will implement a significant series of updates to its professional (non-trade) skills assessment processes. These changes aim to create a more predictable, transparent, and streamlined pathway for skilled professionals seeking Australian migration.

For individuals planning to apply for skilled visas, these updates highlight the importance of preparing accurate documentation and understanding the new requirements. Heenan & Browne Visa and Migration Services can assist with the entire process from skills assessment through to your visa application, ensuring compliance with all new standards and reducing the risk of delays.

Standardised and Faster Processing Timeframes

VETASSESS will introduce defined and predictable processing periods across all professional skills assessment services:

These consistent timeframes offer applicants greater certainty in planning their migration journey, especially when aligning skills assessment validity with visa invitation timelines.

New Rules for Supplying Additional Information

Applicants will now have 28 days to provide any additional documents or information requested by VETASSESS.

If the information is not provided after two reminders, VETASSESS may finalise the application as “not suitable.”

This emphasises the need for accurate documentation from the outset. Heenan & Browne Visa and Migration Services can help ensure that supporting evidence is correctly prepared and submitted, reducing the risk of unfavourable outcomes caused by missing documents.

Urgent Processing Option for Pending Visa Invitations

In recognition of time pressures faced by applicants who receive visa invitations close to the expiry of their skills assessment, VETASSESS will now offer urgent processing at no additional cost.

To be eligible, applicants must provide evidence of a pending visa invitation. This is particularly beneficial for General Skilled Migration applicants whose invitations are time sensitive.

Our team can assist with verifying your eligibility for urgent processing and preparing the necessary evidence.

Updated Identity Documentation Requirements

From December 2025, applicants must provide three separate identity documents, including:

These clearer requirements ensure better identity verification and reduced processing delays. Our migration professionals can guide you on acceptable forms of identification and help prepare compliant submissions.

Revised Assessment Outcome Letters

VETASSESS will adopt more transparent terminology and improved formatting in outcome letters:

Outcome letters will also include:

These updates help applicants better understand their result and subsequent requirements for visa lodgement.

How These Changes Benefit Skilled Migration Applicants

The VETASSESS updates aim to make skills assessments:

However, the changes also place a greater responsibility on applicants to provide complete and accurate documentation within strict timeframes.
