Adult English Migrant Program
The Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP), funded by the Australian Government, provides up to 510 hours of free English language tuition to eligible migrants and humanitarian entrants.
AMEP is offered in tailored streams designed to meet the specific learning needs and goals of newly arrived migrants. Whether you want to improve your English language skills for living, working, or studying in Australia, AMEP have a pathways that's right for you.
If you hold permanent residency or an eligible temporary visa, speak little to no English, and are 18 years or over, you may be eligible for the program. In some cases, individuals between 15 and 17 years of age may also be eligible.

There are also certain time limits that apply from either your visa start date or the date you arrived in Australia (whichever is the latest). To access the AMEP, you must:
register with an AMEP service provider within six months (or 12 months if you are under 18 years of age when you arrived in Australia)
commence your tuition within 12 months
complete your tuition within five years

A range of course options are available, allowing you to take classes full-time or part-time, in-person or through distance learning. Some weekend and night classes are also available. The AMEP also provides free childcare during class times, and home tutoring.
Two types of courses are offered by the program: pre-employment English classes, and social English classes.
