In order to meet the Points Test for Skilled Migration at the time of invitation you, must nominate an occupation from the relevant skilled occupation lists (SOL or CSOL). For the nominated occupation to be considered there must be evidence that your skills have been assessed by the relevant assessing authority. The evidence will include a full (permanent) skills assessment.
The good news is that both Australian and Overseas skills and qualifications can be considered for assessment. In almost all cases, assessing authorities will require the evidence of post-secondary qualifications in order to qualify for a grant of a positive skills assessment of your skills.
In a limited number of occupations, substantial work experience can be considered.
There is no one size that fits all when it comes to Skills Assessment.
The requirements for Skills Assessment are determined by each individual assessing authority in accordance with relevant professional standards.
Please note, that the assessment has an expiry date which will be specified on the assessment.
Some assessing bodies issue a provisional assessment for recent graduates of Australian educational institutions who are applying for a subclass 485 visa.
This assessment is not a suitable skills assessment for a Points Tested Skilled Migration Visa.
For health practitioners, the Department of Home Affairs will accept the following certificates issued by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as evidence of full registration: full/unconditional/general medical registration and conditional specialist.
For legal practitioners, evidence of admission to practice as a lawyer in the relevant State or Territory is considered a suitable skills assessment.
