Visa News

In the last week of September 2024, the Heenan & Browne Visa and Migration Services team was actively involved in significant events that focused on guiding international students and graduates towards successful careers and pathways to permanent residency in Australia.

Engaging with Aspiring Minds at ANU’s International Careers Mini Fair

Our week began at the Australian National University (ANU) where we attended the International Careers Mini Fair. Hosted by ANU Careers and Employability, this event attracted a large number of enthusiastic students keen to understand their Australian visa options and explore pathways to permanent residency. Our team provided detailed insights into navigating the complex visa process, emphasising the Subclass 485 graduate visa and mistakes to avoid in the application process. This visa acts as a bridge for graduates, allowing them to gain Australian work experience and transition to permanent residency visas like SC189, SC190, SC491 or a work visa like SC482.

Insights from the Visa and Migration Panel at ANU

During a lively panel discussion, Zhanna Heenan, a registered migration agent and director of Heenan & Browne Visa and Migration Services, discussed recent legislative changes impacting international students and graduates. She provided expert advice on strategies to optimise points for permanent residency and shared practical tips for navigating the SC485 graduate visa application process effectively. Zhanna also covered other topics such as student visa extensions and student visa conditions. As an ANU alumna and a skilled migrant herself, Zhanna connected with the audience by offering both professional insights and personal encouragement, urging students to stay positive and keep going throughout their migration journey.

Visa Pathways for ANU Graduates

Australian National University (ANU) students who have completed a degree level or higher qualification/s, with a minimum of two years of standard course duration, have access to a graduate SC485 visa pathway. This visa pathway allows graduates to remain in Australia temporarily, enabling them to gain valuable Australian work experience as they work towards securing a pathway to Australian permanent residency.

Celebrating Nursing Excellence at Key 2 Learning College Graduation

Later in the week, we attended the inspiring graduation ceremony at Key 2 Learning College in Canberra, where we celebrated the achievements of new nursing graduates. This event highlighted the essential roles these graduates will play in Australia’s healthcare system. Key 2 Learning College excels in providing an excellent education through its Diploma of Nursing programme, emphasising a practical approach and fostering a supportive environment that inspires students to excel. These confident graduates are now fully prepared to serve the people of Australia, equipped with the skills, compassion, and readiness needed in diverse healthcare settings across the nation. The ceremony was more than a formal event; it also featured spectacular Bollywood performances organised by the graduates, showcasing their versatile talents and cultural richness.

Visa Opportunities for Key 2 Learning College Graduates

Key to Learning College has established a commendable pathway for nursing graduates, offering a Diploma of Nursing that not only equips them with essential skills but also provides a route towards permanent residency in Australia. Many graduates are now pursuing further studies or starting their careers as enrolled nurses, contributing significantly to healthcare settings across the country. Graduates from Key 2 Learning College can explore a training visa pathway. This pathway is designed to provide practical experience in the Australian workforce, enhancing their skills and boosting their qualifications in their respective fields. Engaging in this pathway not only offers immediate work experience but also helps to enliven further migration pathways, potentially leading to a work visa or permanent residency in Australia.
